Bio

My Story

Word Collage

I am a Southern California native, born and raised. I am a passionate and dedicated communications professional who enjoys writing, editing, and designing creative advertising materials. I have demonstrated experience in writing communications, creative advertising, marketing and project coordination. In May 2008, I received a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Pitzer College, a member of the Claremont Colleges. I completed marketing work with Allied Global Marketing in Washington, DC that summer, where I gathered qualitative and quantitative data, and I  returned to California after it ended. Upon graduating during the economic recession, I also worked on temporary assignments to gain as much work experience as possible.

About two years later, I moved to Washington, DC for a change in scenery and more employment opportunities. I explored various professional fields during that time, where I completed special events and advertising work for Allied Global Marketing for about 7 months that involved gathering qualitative and quantitative data for studios that were clients. I also worked for the American Diabetes Association as an Associate Manager for 4 years, where I was responsible for written and verbal communications with clients and the outer community about membership, diabetes management and prevention, and other services. I was also responsible for written and verbal communications with other departments. As the Administrative Specialist for TrustPoint One, my duties included writing and blasting internal and external email communications to hundreds of recipients at once, client relations, and being the human resources liaison for three offices with over 200 attorneys.

After spending 6 years in Washington, DC working in the marketing, non-profit and legal staffing fields, I decided to focus on the communications field and pursue a master's degree in Communication. I moved back to Los Angeles in August 2016 to begin the Master's degree in Communication Management program at the University of Southern California. I took courses in marketing, entertainment, content creation, business, dynamics and trends in workplace communication, communication theory, and market research methods. In spring 2018, I completed marketing and market research work for Allied Global Marketing, Moxy Division in Hollywood, CA, where I assisted with the promotion of blockbuster films, such as Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, and A Quiet Place. I graduated from the Master of Communication Management program in May 2018, Magna Cum Laude, and I added my digital academic projects from the program to the "digital academic projects" section of this portfolio.

From July 2017 to December 2018, I completed marketing and communications work with the Assistance League of Los Angeles, YPG, where I was instrumental in helping the organization raise over $650,000.00 for disadvantaged youth at the Centennial Diamond Gala at Paramount Studios, and communicated with members and attendees during silent silent auction bidding and foster youth no sew blanket events. From March 2019 to August 2020, I completed communications and community outreach work with the La Brea Tar Pits, where I communicated the history of the property, Ice Age period fossils excavated onsite, and revelations about life in Los Angeles and climate change to visitors. I also showcased casts made of resin that were identical to fossils excavated on site as interactive learning tools.

From December 2021 to February 2022, I was the Communications Coordinator for the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, where my tasks included writing, editing, marketing, and advertising work. During my time there, I created the "Chamber Weekly" newspaper style newsletter, where I utilized storytelling elements to engage members when monthly events remained virtual due to the pandemic. I was also responsible for creating flyers for member events including "Women in Business", where I served as the Chamber liaison, and "Chamber 101" that was an orientation to the Chamber and membership.

As I continue my professional journey, I like to think of my career as a learning experience that involves continuous growth. I remain dedicated to being a highly organized communications professional with demonstrated experience in marketing and project management, who is specialized in managing multiple projects from conception to completion and excels in fast-paced environments requiring multi-tasking. I remain curious and excited about what is ahead of the curve. Take a look at my work samples in the "work samples collection" section of my portfolio , and feel free to reach out with any questions.
